"Project 33" - Match #112: Porky & Maximo vs. Texano & Terrible

Brazo de Plata & Maximo vs. Texano Jr. & el Terrible
18 March, 2011
Arena Mexico; Mexico City, Mexico
Hair vs. Hair Match

This match wasn't half bad.  It had a ton of limitations thrown at it, but it was what it was.  What it was not, was a marquee match to headline a major show.  Unfortunately, that is what it was.

Super Porky is a total novelty act.  He established himself as such when in the declining years of his career, he turned his gimmick into a comedy act based on his hefty size.  This, coupled with the fact he never wins apuesta matches, thus he is an old, fat, funny guy that no one really takes seriously.  Maximo is his son, who does a hybrid exotico gimmick - a gimmick where he acts like a flaming homosexual, but does it mostly for humor purposes.  It is totally a gimmick, because he has sired a number of children with hotass India Sioux.  But it is a damn funny gimmick.

Notice how when describing neither Porky nor Maximo, did I use the word "serious"?  That is because they are not.  Texano and Terrible, however, have been pushed and packaged as serious.  They have both won big hair matches before, including the scalps of Yujiro & Naito in 2009 - which was a big deal.  Hell, Texano has even scalped Maximo before.

What we have here is a match that would either make sense headlining a less major show, or maybe as a big semi-main behind a killer main event on a major show.  There was no drama to this match.  The quick first pinfall by the tecnicos didn't really help rally the fans behind them - which is probably why this show drew poorly.  In addition, Maximo had to do the lion's share of the work, as Porky just cannot physically go anymore.  Conversely, whenever Terrible or Texano had to sell for Porly, it looked disjointed.

That is not to say that these guys loafed it or mailed it in.  Everyone put in a great effort and tried to make this be as good as it could.  Hell, Porky was even busting out the big dives, and eating suplexes.  The problem with the match can be illustrated by when, in the third fall, Maximo, Terrible & Texano are battling it out with dives to the floor, and Porky just stands in the corner blown up, gasping for air, and looking on the verge of having a massive coronary.

I would kill to see Texano & Terrible vs Ultimo Guerrero & Dragon Rojo Jr., or Averno & Mephesto.
