Tiger Mask, Great Sasuke & Mil Mascaras vs. Dynamite Kid, Dos Caras & Kuniaki Kobayashi
10 October, 1996
Sumo Hall; Tokyo, Japan
Part 2 Part 3
This was the last ever match between Tiger Mask and Dynamite Kid.
The obvious comment here is that Dynamite Kid looks horrible. By this point in time, Dyanamite had been retired for about five years, and had essentially become a recluse. His years of drug abuse and injuries sustained from wrestling just destroyed his body, and he came out of retirement for this "High flying legends" match for Michinoku Pro.
Keep in mind, everyone in this match was essentially a "retired" veteran, except Sasuke, who was the promoter of the event, and was at the height of his powers at this time. Brothers Dos Caras and Mil Mascaras were in their 50s at least at this point, as was Tiger Mask. Kobayashi was not retired, but he had recent bouts with cancer, so he was not necessarily full-time with New Japan either. The idea of this match was that these legends of the past would draw well for the small but popular Japanese independent promotion - which it did.
From a match point of view, there wasn't really anything spectacular here. Everyone seemed to work pretty hard, but they were just shadows of their formers selves in a lot of ways. Oddly enough, Caras, Mascaras, and Tiger Mask still compete today, while the other three younger men in this match are all retired. Dynamite is in a wheelchair (which happened shortly after this match), Kobayashi runs the NJPW dojo, and Sasuke went off to be a senator and politician.
