"Project 33" - Match #86: Tiger Mask & La Máscara vs Ishii & Dragon Rojo Jr.

Tiger Mask 4 & La Máscara vs Ishii & Dragon Rojo Jr.
22 January, 2011
Korakuen Hall; Tokyo, Japan

This match was very hard to watch.  I heard bad things about it, but it was even worse than I thought.  However, unlike most of the people who have watched this match, I will not shit all over La Mascara for it.

At the beginning of the match, Dragon Rojo did a dive, and La Mascara just nailed his head on the chairs at ringside.  It was obvious he had his bell rung here.  Like most pros however, Mascara soldiered on and tried to finish the match.  Admirable, but probably stupid.  However, Mascara knew it was a big show and he needed to perform, so I understand why he soldiered on - I would have too.  He even got thru his next exchange in the match relatively unscathed, however, when he came back in the ring the next time, it was more than obvious that something was wrong - really wrong.  When Mascara attempted to Quebradora Rojo and dropped him, that should have been the sign for everyone else in the match to do one of two things: 1) go home, or 2) get Mascara out of the ring and Tiger Mask eats offense from Ishii and Rojo. Instead, they kept plowing thru the match like Mascara wasn't hurt, and he kept screwing things up.  Hell, when he attempted to tope Rojo on the outside and missed, you could actually see Rojo lean down and check on him, and then kind of help him up.  Why he didn't post him right there and tell him to stay down, I do not know.

Horrible, horrible match.  These guys are all pros, and they all should have known to go home.  I cannot imagine the heat for changing the match would be as bad as the heat they got for having such a shitty match.

This is a shame, because I like Mascara and Rojo, and this match made them both loo like shit.
